Flight Clearances for Mozambique, Malawi & Zimbabwe
Following are flight clearances application procedures for some countries. Ensure that you apply in good time to allow for ample time to have the flight clearances processed. This information is provided in good faith and does not constitute and official information. Please use at your own risk and don't complain that you have not been warned. There are lots of professional companies that provide these services for a moderate fee.
International flights to and over Malawi require a flight permit. Applications are handled by the DCA (in consultation with the police). Also Malawi registered aircraft require a re-entry permit. Send your clearance application by email or fax and call the Lilongwe briefing office thereafter to confirm that it was received. They will let you know when you can call back for the clearance number. This may take some days.
Flights to or over Mozambique require a flight clearance. Applications are handled by the CAA. It is unclear whether international air routes are exempt or not from the overflight clearance procedure. An overflight clearance is fairly straight forward to apply for. According the civil aviation website a landing clearance requires a lot of supporting documentation. Send your clearance application by email or fax and call thereafter to confirm it was received in good order. They will let you know when you can call back for the clearance number. If you are lucky this may be later in the day. Overflight charges are collected via IATA and/or ATNS.
Flights to or over Zimbabwe require a flight clearance. Applications are handled by the CAA (in consultation with the air force?). Send your application by email. If all goes well you will receive the clearance number the same day.
Note: If you are overflying, you will first need to pay the navigation charges before your are furnished with the clearance number. You will receive an invoice by email which needs to be paid. The same applies if your are landing at an aerodrome without a CAA cashier to collect your navigation charges on landing. Flight plans are to be filed at least 12h in advance and internal flights also require flight clearances.
